Chorionic somatomammotrophin as index of fetal growth.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Concentrations of chorionic somatomammotrophin (hCS) in maternal plasma at the time of delivery and in placental extracts were determined by radioimmunoassay and related to neonatal growth in 111 normal pregnancies. Mean maternal plasma hCS concentration was lower in association with small-for-dates infants, defined by either height or weight, than with well-grown preterm or term infants. Mean placental hCS concentration was not decreased in association with undergrown infants though placental hCS was correlated with maternal hCS (r=0 - 245).

The Endocrine Function of the Placenta: Human Placental Growth Hormone Variant
The placenta of mammals is a very adaptable organ that accomplishes many critical functions necessary for the well-being of the host and developing fetus. For example, the placenta serves as an attachment site to secure the developing fetus to the uterus, and it transports nutrients from the maternal to the fetal compartment. During the evolution of viviparity, the placenta has assumed various ...
متن کاملP-76: Stepwise Reduction of Fetal Bovine Serum Levels in Chinese Hamster OvaryCells -Expressing Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin- Culture
Background: The demand for producing recombinant therapeutic proteins by mammalian cell lines, such as Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, continues to grow. Significant achievements in process optimization including development of cell culture strategies for largescale and cost-effective production have been made. Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is an often essential growth supplement and yet most cos...
متن کاملUterine artery Doppler at 11-14 weeks of gestation in chromosomally abnormal fetuses.
OBJECTIVE To determine whether the major chromosomal abnormalities are associated with impaired placentation in the first trimester of pregnancy. METHODS This was a prospective study of 692 singleton pregnancies undergoing fetal karyotyping at 11-14 weeks of gestation. Uterine artery Doppler was carried out and the mean pulsatility index was calculated just before chorionic villus sampling. ...
متن کاملAltered fetal growth, placental abnormalities, and stillbirth
BACKGROUND Worldwide, stillbirth is one of the leading causes of death. Altered fetal growth and placental abnormalities are the strongest and most prevalent known risk factors for stillbirth. The aim of this study was to identify patterns of association between placental abnormalities, fetal growth, and stillbirth. METHODS AND FINDINGS Population-based case-control study of all stillbirths a...
متن کاملHuman Chorionic Gonadotropin as a Pivotal Endocrine Immune Regulator Initiating and Preserving Fetal Tolerance
The pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), is crucially involved in processes such as implantation and placentation, two milestones of pregnancy whose successful progress is a prerequisite for adequate fetal growth. Moreover, hCG determines fetal fate by regulating maternal innate and adaptive immune responses allowing the acceptance of the foreign fetal antigens. As one of the ...
